A humanitarian flight from China landed in Almaty International Airport on April 2, Toppress.kz correspondent reports. Representatives of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry, Chinese Consulate General in Almaty and “SK-Pharmacy” company (official distributor of medications in the country) received the cargo at the airport.
Humanitarian aid consists of thermal scanners, testing kits, one-use medical boot covers, gloves, protective eyeglasses and medical suits. Additional personal protective equipment is expected to come with another humanitarian aid flight from China shortly, Kazakh Foreign Ministry representative said.
Taking into consideration extreme circumstances and emergency regime in Kazakhstan China has sent COVID-19 diagnostic tests, thermal scanners, one-use gloves, boot covers, medical suits and eyeglasses. The total weight of humanitarian aid is 500 kilograms. We will distribute it to the medical organisations of Kazakhstan according to the existing demand. Earlier we received humanitarian cargo from Japan (testing kits, glasses and suits) and Turkey (protective sets, masks and gloves), “SK Pharmacy” manager Sholpan Agibekova noted.
Deputy General Consul of China in Almaty Myao Humbo stressed it is the first humanitarian cargo from the government of China.
Today we delivered testing kits, gloves, glasses, suits and other medical protection equipment. I think it’s not the last humanitarian cargo from China. Kazakh government and people have always been helping China during the most difficult time. China and Kazakhstan are neighbouring countries and long-term partners, we have always been allies. I am confident that together we will win the fight against coronavirus. Kazakhstani people should keep their spirits up, he said.
The head of Zhetysu customs post Talgat Zhanbyrbayev said the cargo came through humanitarian aid section and was not subject to any taxes or fees. After being registered under the simplified procedure and checked within 10-15 minutes, the cargo was immediately taken by the receivers.
Head of the Foreign Ministry’s Representative Office in Almaty Yerlan Iskakov emphasized that the country’s diplomatic missions abroad continue to actively work to attract humanitarian support for Kazakhstan.
Today the aid has come from China, Shanghai has allocated medical protective equipment. Last week we received 50 000 masks from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which were distributed among infectious disease clinics. Foreign Ministry will continue to work in this direction, we have already reached agreements on humanitarian aid with some other countries, including Singapore, Russia and South Korea, he concluded.
The humanitarian aid has been sent to Kazakhstan in the follow-up to the phone conversation between President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, which took place on March 24, 2020.
According to the latest official data, there are 402 cases of coronavirus infected people, 3 deaths and 26 recovered in Kazakhstan.
