President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about corruption among officials during a meeting with members of government and law-enforcement agencies on August 19, Toppress.kz reports citing akorda.kz.
“Frankly speaking, as we could see from the daily news, officials of various levels have been detained for crimes related to corruption. Among them are two regional akims (mayors), which in itself is very alarming,” the President stressed.
Corruption corrodes the entire state apparatus like rust corrodes metal, he said.
“In the first seven months of 2020 alone, 912 persons were prosecuted for corruption, which is 11 percent more than in the same period last year (820),” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted.
