The Ministry of Agriculture continues negotiations with China to start pork exports from Kazakhstan to Chinese markets, Minister of Agriculture Saparkhan Omarov said at a government session on Tuesday, May 26.
At the moment, the Ministry is working together with the Chinese General Administration of Customs on the inclusion of Kazakhstani enterprises in the register of importers, he said.
In 2019, the Ministry ensured successful confirmation of Kazakhstan’s status as a country free from African swine fever in the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). A veterinary certificate was signed with China for the export of pork. The Chinese General Administration of Customs has already finished first stage of inspection procedure.
Due to these measures, we have seen a significant increase of interest from foreign companies in investing in pork production. Currently, 11 projects with the capacity of 187,000 tons are at the implementation and design stage. 6 projects are under construction. Most projects have private investment. Overall, with the help of these projects, we are planning to ensure 2.7 increase of production in the coming years. The volume of investments will be 271 billion tenge, 3.8 thousand new jobs will be created, he noted.
