Kazakhstan Civil Aviation Committee is working to change codes of three airports across the country, CAC Chairman Talgat Lastayev said at a press briefing on Monday, June 8.
We keep working on it. We are planning to change the codes of Aktau – SCO (standing for the old name of the city – Shevchenko), Atyrau – GUW (Guryev) and Taraz – DMB (Dzhambul), he said.
As explained earlier, in order to change the code of the capital’s airport, Kazakhstan negotiated with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) to change its resolution. This step will allow other states to apply for the airport code change in the future.
On June 8, 2020, Nur Sultan airport code was officially changed from TSE to NQZ. The new code will be used from now on in all airline reservation systems, including tickets, baggage tags, and bulletin boards.
