The Turksib regional court of Almaty ruled Wednesday that Bek Air, a low-cost regional airline of Kazakhstan, must fully refund airfare to the passengers whose flights got canceled after the carrier’s plane crashed on December 27, 2019.
As previously reported, the Consumer Protection Committee representing interests of 560 passengers, filed a lawsuit against Bek Air on January 31, 2020 seeking refund of approximately 52 million tenge.
The court has decided to satisfy claim requirements and recognize the right of consumers to get a full refund for the previously purchased flight tickets that were subsequently canceled through no fault of consumers. The court has ruled that Bek Air shall be obliged to refund the full price of these ticket, the court’s decision reads.
Bek Air Flight 2100 was a domestic passenger flight from Almaty to Nur-Sultan, operated by a Fokker 100 that crashed on 27 December 2019 while taking off from Almaty International Airport. There were 98 people on board – 93 passengers and 5 crew. Twelve people died in the crash, and 66 were injured.
