On July 29, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with the government leadership on the epidemiological situation in Kazakhstan, Toppress.kz correspondent reports citing akorda.kz.
Prime Minister Askar Mamin made a report, saying after the introduction of strict quarantine measures on July 5, COVID-19 cases in the country decreased by 29%. The number of infected people has stabilized at the level of 1500-1600 people per day. Hospitals occupancy fell by 43%, including of the intensive care wards – by 27%. The number of recovered patients increased up to 63%, while the number of EMS calls decreased.
Askar Mamin noted the government keeps monitoring the situation in the regions on a daily basis, tracking such key indicators as morbidity and mortality, quality of medical care, the scale of testing and availability of medicines and equipment in the intensive care units.
Health Minister Alexey Tsoi, for his part, highlighted approaches to gradual lifting of quarantine restrictions in the country with due attention to the impact of infrastructure facilities on the epidemiological situation and economy.
Closing the meeting, President Tokayev stressed it is of critical importance to further reduce the incidence and mortality rates from coronavirus. In order to further strengthen positive effects of the quarantine and taking into account the existing risks in Kazakhstan and neighbouring countries, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the State Commission to extend the quarantine for another two weeks.
