President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a Decree extending the state of emergency in Kazakhstan, Toppress.kz correspondent reports citing the presidential web-site.
The decree requires “to extend the state of emergency on the entire territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, previously introduced by the Presidential Decree № 285 dated March 15, 2020, until 7:00 a.m. of May 1, 2020”.
Last week President Tokayev announced the quarantine would be prolonged in the country.
We have not yet passed the peak of the coronavirus outbreak. We should not oversimplify the COVID-19 situation. To this end, I instruct you to extend quarantine in the capital, Almaty, Shymkent and other regions until the end of April. I understand that this is an unpopular decision, because people want to take to the streets and restore their usual way of life. But there is no other way out, apart from the quarantine and self-isolation. These are recommendations of domestic and international virologists, he said.
