On May 8, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated the citizens of Kazakhstan on the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War.
“This holiday is a vivid symbol of astonishing bravery of our fathers and grandfathers, who defended their homeland in deadly battles and ultimately crushed Nazism. In those difficult years, the people of Kazakhstan showed incredible courage and heroism. 1.2 million people were sent to the frontline, half of them never came back home. The names of the war heroes will be remembered forever,” the President’s congratulatory address reads.
“Hundreds of industrial enterprises were evacuated to Kazakhstan, where tens of thousands of our fellow citizens forged the Great Victory. Every nine out of ten bullets were cast from Kazakhstan lead. From dawn to dusk homefront workers provided soldiers at the frontline with food. We owe a lot to the elder generation. Due to their courage, perseverance and patriotism we live in peace today,” he said.
“Despite the fact that this year the holiday is taking place under special circumstances, none of the veterans have been left without our attention and support. I wish all veterans health, well-being and good spirits,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev concluded.
