President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will address the nation in a televised broadcast next week, for the third time since the start of COVID-19 outbreak, Press Secretary Berik Uali announced on the evening of April 21.
“President Tokayev will address the public on coronavirus related issues. It is no secret that the Head of State’s schedule underwent serious adjustments in recent weeks. We declared a state of emergency in the country and the President’s working schedule can also be called emergency schedule. The amount of incoming analytical reports has sharply increased, immediate response is often required. Today, most of his meetings are held in a videoconference format. The fight against coronavirus, of course, remains the first topic on the agenda,” he noted.
Press Secretary said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev hears reports from the government, members of the State Emergency Commission and regional mayors on a daily basis.
“In his recent phone conversations with regional akims (mayors), President Tokayev set a number of tasks related to the support of small and medium-sized businesses, social safety, sowing campaign and flood control. Epidemiological situation in the country and the world is constantly changing. In the near future, the final decision will be made on the extension of quarantine and state of emergency,” he stressed.
