During a phone conversation, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres discussed practical measures taken by the UN and Kazakhstan to neutralize the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences.
The Head of State praised proactive actions of the UN aimed at mitigation of the negative impact of the pandemic on national health systems and their economies. He stressed Kazakhstan fully supports the UN initiatives aimed at strengthening international security and economic recovery.
António Guterres, for his part, expressed gratitude to the President of Kazakhstan for his consistent support of the UN agenda and significant contribution into the fight against coronavirus at the regional level. Guterres highlighted the 2020-2021 chairmanship of Kazakhstan in the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries, and invited Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to take part in the high-level meeting on Financing for Development in the era of COVID-19.
The event will take place on May 28, 2020 in a video conference format with the participation of leaders of several countries and heads of multilateral institutions. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev confirmed his participation in the meeting.
