On April 30, 2020, Frontier Service Department (FSD) of the Mangystau National Security Committee spotted an intruder ship during night patrolling of territorial waters of Kazakhstan.
After receiving visual and sound signaling to stop, as stipulated by the international law, the vessel increased its speed and tried to escape, Toppress.kz correspondent reports citing Press Office of the National Security Committee.
As the ship kept ignoring requests of the Frontier Service to stop, FSD personnel had to fire warning shots into the air and the vessel’s engines. Four nationals of Azerbaijan were detained and provided primary medical care, which was required as a result of bullet ricocheting from the engines. Violators and their ship equipped with a high-speed engine, satellite communications and GPS-navigator were subsequently convoyed to the port.
Immediate investigative actions are currently underway.
